In the broadest sense, folk art refers to the art of the people or the art of the land. Before industrialization, folk art was widespread in Europe, exhibiting work created by people who had no access to the products of the wealthy and who were engaged largely in agricultural, pastoral or maritime pursuits. This painting was very typical in the early 1800s, and farmers wanted their cow to be shown with a big body and short legs.
