Artist Biographical Information
William E. Parker (1932-2009) received his Bachelor of Design and MFA Degrees from the University of Florida. A visual arts educator for thirty-five years, Parker taught at Memphis State University, The Art School of Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, and the Rhode Island School of Design. In 1969, Mr. Parker was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Art, School of Fine Arts, at the University of Connecticut at Storrs retiring in 1994, as Emeritus Professor of Art, Photography, and the History of Photography. Mr. Parker wrote and lectured extensively on photography and the history of photography. As a painter and photographer, combining media, he has exhibited in numerous regional and national group exhibitions and twenty-six invitational one-person exhibitions. His work combining photography and painting was recognized by two major National Endowment for the Art Individual Artist Grants in highest award categories. His work appears in such collections as the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
