Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. A. David Kline provides introductions to the speakers and welcome remarks. President of the University, John A. Delaney acknowledges the warmth of the campus welcome for him as the new president and praises the quality of the faculty. Dr. Stephen L. Shapiro, Vice President of the Faculty Association, distributes awards to faculty members, including this year's distinguished professor award to Dr. Kunisi S. Venkatasubban. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Venkatasubban reflects on his career at UNF, the growth of the student body and the importance of faculty research to improving the quality of teaching. Dr. Venkatasubban describes the evolution of the science program at UNF. With the expansion of course offerings and increase in the numbers of students studying science, he urges that attention be paid to the need for more science faculty, more laboratory space and greater financial resources to support research. Dr. Venkatasubban looks forward to the addition of master level degrees in the sciences and the creation of collaborative degree programs.
