This collection contains correspondence, postcards, printed materials, brochures, business cards, menus, photographs, memorabilia, and ephemera related to Northeast Florida. Objects in the collection originate from Jacksonville area hotels and businesses and includes flatware, plates, ginger beer bottles, and a commemorative engraved pitcher. The postcard and stereograph card collection features images and illustrations from locations in Jacksonville, Pablo and Jacksonville Beach, Mandarin, Palatka, and St Augustine.

Abstract

The collection consists of 3-dimensional objects, correspondence, printed materials and books covering a variety of topics on Northeast Florida. The majority of the collection relates to local businesses and attractions in Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, and St. Augustine.

The materials in this collection were collected and curated by Richard Mette. Mette is a lifelong Jacksonville resident and has family ties to the area going back several generations. He channeled his interest in the region in to collecting memorabilia and ephemera that are representative of the business and attractions of the region. The majority of the collection served as souvenirs for visitors to Jacksonville and the surrounding cities in Northeast Florida. Included in the collection is Mr. Mette’s research materials that provide additional background of the materials represented in this collection.
