Dahlonega Mint Monument, GA. The Dahlonega Mint was a former branch of the United States Mint. Coins produced at the Dahlonega Mint bear the "D" mint mark. That mint mark is used today by the Denver Mint, which opened many years after the Dahlonega Mint closed. All coins from the Dahlonega Mint are gold and bear the dates 1838-1861.
Its ruins can be found today beneath the Price Memorial Building, which was built in 1879, on the campus of North Georgia College & State University. The main building was destroyed by the fire in 1878. A historical marker on the grounds outlines the sites history.
