Artist Biographical Information

Allan Ramsay was a prominent Scottish portrait painter, whose works were notable for their grace, individuality and excellent draftsmanship. In 1761, Ramsay was appointed as Principal Painter in Ordinary to King George Ill of England, and painted hundreds of portraits commissioned by the King to give as gifts to ambassadors and colonial governors. Ramsay's works can be found in the Scottish National Gallery, the Royal Scottish Academy, the National Gallery in London, and other prestigious museums and galleries.
