Artist Biographical Information

Mernet Larsen (b. 1940) taught painting at the University of South Florida from 1967 to 2003. She earned her BFA from the University of Florida and her MFA from Indiana University. She has also taught at Yale School of Art, Yale/Norfolk Summer School; Montana State University; The Catholic University of Milan’s Rome Summer Session; and the University of Oklahoma. She has exhibited widely throughout the United States and her work is in numerous collections including the Florida House of Representatives, University of Oklahoma Museum, Oklahoma Art Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN among others. Among her many grants and awards are the TBBCA Lifetime Achievement Impact Award (Tampa Bay) 2018, Distinguished Alumna Award, P.K.Yonge Developmental Research School (Class of 1958) 2013, Florida Individual Artist Fellowship, MacDowell Fellowship and The University of South Florida Jerry Krivanik Distinguished Teacher Award.
