Artist Biographical Information
Hiram Williams (1917-2003) was a Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida where he taught from 1960 until his retirement in 1982. He received his BS and M.Ed. degrees from Pennsylvania State University. He exhibited in over fifty one-person shows including seven in New York City and was represented in over two-hundred invitational shows including the Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; National Institute of Arts and Letters, New York; Carnegie International, Pittsburgh; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Philadelphia; Corcoran Gallery, and the National Museum of American Art, Washington, DC; and the Texas Art Museum, Dallas. He authored Notes for a Young Painter (Revised and Expanded Prentice-Hall, NJ, 1984). Williams was a Guggenheim Fellow, and was named to the Florida Artist Hall of Fame in 1994.
