Artist Biographical Information
John S. Bunker is a Fine Arts graduate of Florida State University. He received his MFA from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University where he was awarded a fellowship for study in painting and the humanities. Mr. Bunker served as Coordinator of Secondary Art Education for the Duval County School System in the mid 1970s and later as Director of Education, Associate Director and Interim Director at the Jacksonville Art Museum. He also served as director of the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and is a graduate of both the Smithsonian Institution's Fundamentals of Museum Management and the J.P. Getty's Museum Management Institute UC Berkeley. In 2007, John Bunker received the Individual Arts Award from the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville in recognition of three decades of leadership in the First Coast community. His works are in major corporate, public and private collections in the United States and abroad. His painting Winged Victory: Memorial Park (2011) is housed on the first floor of UNF’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library.
