Artist Biographical Information
Anthony Van Dyck was one of the most prominent Flemish Baroque painters of the 17th century. A prolific painter of portraits of European aristocracy, he also executed many works on religious and mythological subjects and was a fine draftsman and etcher. By the age of 19, he was inscribed as a master in the Antwerp guild. Van Dyke came under the influence of Peter Paul Rubens, the undisputed leader of art in Antwerp, and many of his works obviously emulated Ruben's melodramatic style.
