Description

Tablets and smart phones are versatile tools for collecting data in the field. They can be used to collect text, photographs, location, audio, and video data.

This presentation will demonstrate two data collection apps, the Qualtrics Offline App and the MaxQDA MAXApp. The Qualtrics Offline App allows researchers to download surveys and collect survey responses to mobile devices. Surveys can also capture photographs, and collect location information. Survey questions can be pre-coded when the survey is built. Once collected, responses are uploaded to Qualtics and the dataset can be downloaded as an SPSS or tabular data file for import into analysis software. The MAXApp can be used to collect photographs, text, audio, video, and location data. Researchers can use the MAXApp to take field notes and memos, and also perform basic coding on the data. The data is then transferred to a computer for analysis in MAXQDA. Tablets will be available for hands-on demonstrations of both methods of data collection.
