Biographical Statement

Dr. Laura Boilini serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the field of Educational Leadership at UNF. Dr. Boilini is in her second year at UNF in this role after serving two years as a Visiting Professor and has an extensive career in K12 in both Indiana and Florida. Dr. Boilini served as a teacher, art teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent, Director of Post-Secondary Planning and Preparation and a Dean of a community college before coming to UNF. She is interested in listening to her students and designing courses and assignments for them that are meaningful and relevant. The paper she has most recently written and presented is titled "The Voices of our Students-What we can Learn from Aspiring Leaders" and Dr. Boilini feels strongly that it is absolutely vital that students' voices are heard and considered in all endeavors of change.

Description of Work

This study and paper demonstrates Dr. Boilini's commitment to listening to and learning from her students to ensure that the courses she teaches in the field of Educational Leadership at UNF are relevant and meaningful. Her dissertation, completed at Purdue University, discussed the concept of shared decision making to enact change in the school setting. This study is an outgrowth of her early research interests and reflects her desire to continue to obtain genuine input from all stakeholders. The objective of the research was to review graduate student reflectionson the topic of the 2011 Florida Principal Leadership standards from a self-assessment perspective. The researcher sought to learn new knowledge from graduate students' expressions, to better understand graduate students' perceptions of their own educational leadership growth journeys as aligned to professional standards, and to use this information to guide course and program improvement.
