In Episode 34 of Instruction Request, Beryl White-Bing and Lauren Odom explore resources available through the Thomas G. Carpenter Library for religious studies research. Learn how to use the Religious Studies Library Guide and databases such as the Atla Religion Database, JSTOR, and Project MUSE to locate scholarly articles, books, images, historical documents, and primary sources.
Beryl also introduces immersive religious and cultural experiences available through the Virtual Learning Center, including:
• Il Divino: Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling • A virtual tour of Qatar’s Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque • Anne Frank House VR • Pilgrim VR: Hajj and Umrah • A Haitian Vodou ceremony in 360° video • A virtual reconstruction of the Ashmyany Synagogue • Immersive explorations of Hagia Sophia and Jerusalem’s sacred sites
Students may visit the Virtual Learning Center independently, while faculty can incorporate these experiences into assignments or schedule a class visit. The episode also includes updates about research consultations, library instruction, the Ready for Research badge, the VR Club at UNF, and the VLC’s developing AI Learning Lab.
