Mr. Smith was an Emmy Award-winning photographer and cameraman for over forty-five years. His work, as depicted in this collection, provides a visual documentation of the region, particularly in the transportation industry, in the second half of the twentieth century. Other materials relate to Mr. Smith’s work in film and photography for television networks, business clients, U.S. government agencies, independent film companies, and national and Jacksonville advertising agencies. The collection consists of approximately 55,000 35mm slides, mounted and unmounted photographs and advertisements, and related materials. The bulk of the slide images are dated, at least within the decade. Other sets of material by Smith may be found in the Archives Center of the National Museum of American History and at Texas Tech University.
