Abstract
A descriptive letter dated February 6, 1846, from S. S. Hyatt to John ?, sent from Jacksonville, Florida. The correspondent provides details of social and leisure activities in Jacksonville and the surrounding region. He describes a river boat trip to a plantation a few miles up the river from Jacksonville, an invitation to dinner by the plantation owner, a sighting of a cotton gin, and his return trip by boat to Jacksonville. Social activities recounted include masquerade parties with costumed gentlemen going from house to house, accompanied by dancing and music. He also writes of attending a ball with about seventy other persons, and the company encompassing most of the "beauties of Jacksonville." Box 1, Folder 3
