Building Name
St Mary's Episcopal Church
Description
St Mary's Episcopal Church is located in Green Cove Springs, Florida. The Carpenter Gothic church was built 1879 and the bell tower was added in 1880. The church is constructed on piers about three feet above ground to prevent flooding as the church is only about 40 foot from the river. This church is quite unique in the fact that it is a small narrow church and exiting in case of fire would be quite difficult; therefore, each pew is equipped with a fire escape door in the wall. It is on the National Register of Historic Places (#78000933).
