Georgia's 149th county was named for Senator Augustus O. Bacon, a four-term U.S. Senator who died in office on Feb. 15, 1914. The City of Alma was founded in 1906. Known for its blueberry production, Alma then turned to agriculture as its vital resource for its economy. This marker was placed by the Georgia Historical Commission.
