Split Rock Lighthouse
Description
Split Rock lighthouse is located on the north shore of Lake Superior in Beaver Bay, Minnesota. It was built in 1910 and decommissioned in 1969. The property was transferred to the state in 1971. Administration of the lighthouse was given to the Minnesota Historical Society in 1976. It has been completely restored and in 1980 was open for public tours. The lighthouse is part of the Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. This is on the National Register of Historic Places (NRIS #69000073) and a National Historic Landmark.
