Description
Jacksonville Naval Memorial Statue 2, Jacksonville, Fl.
This memorial statue is located on the south bank of the St. John's River in downtown Jacksonville. It is directly in front of the Wachovia Building on the Riverwalk.
This sculpture is made of bronze, and the foundation is of granite. It was made by Bleifeld Stanley. It shows a young sailor looking out to sea, leans forward, resting his proper left foot on a dock post. He is dressed in uniform, with sailor's cap and scarf tie. He wears an unbuttoned navy peacoat with upturned collar, and bell-bottom pants. His duffle bag sits next to the dock post. The entire sculpture sits on a raised platform with granite foundation.
This Memorial commemorates the rich and valued relationship between the people of Jacksonville and the United States Navy. It symbolizes the community's feeling of honor and esteem for the Men and Women of the Navy. They are part of our family.
May God be with them on land, on the sea, under the sea and in the sky above it.
