From 1924 until 1954, the Alapaha Colored School was the only school for black children in the northern part of Berrien County.
It was a wood-framed building, two-story building, built in 1924, and consisted of four classrooms. The land where the school sits, now restored, and on the National Register of Historic Places. NRIS #02000758
