The single-story, frame vernacular schoolhouse was constructed in 1890 and is historically significant in the areas of Early Settlement, Education and Religion. The period of significance is 1890-1923, when the building served as a school until 1916 and community center for religious and social activities. The Windermere Schoolhouse represents a typical wooden-building built in rural Florida in the 1890's. The schoolhouse, one of the last remaining historic buildings in Windermere, and the only remaining schoolhouse in Orange County, was also used for religious services and meetings by local organizations such as the Board of Trade, Civic Club and Woman's Club.
