The planned capital city took shape and was given the name Milledgeville in honor of John Milledge, governor of Georgia (1802-1806) and donor of the land for the University of Georgia. Later Atlanta was made the capital.
This is the City Hall which was built in 1907-1908 and houses the government and administrative offices.
