Eatonton, the seat for Putnam County, incorporated on December 12, 1809. The city remembers diplomat and general, William Eaton of Connecticut. During the Civil War, Eatonton served as a haven for wounded soldiers.
The City Hall of Eatonton building is located on N Jefferson Avenue, and the government offices are located here. Originally this was the US Post Office.
