The depot, built in the late 1800s, was vacated by CSX Transportation in the 1980s, but then was operated by Georgia Southwestern Railroad. It has been closed more than a decade. It is owned by the Georgia Department of Transportation, which leases the building to the town of Richland for $1 a year.
The historic Richland Depot, which once served as a hub for railway traffic moving north, south, east and west through southwest Georgia, has undergone extensive renovation and l opened as a Railroad Museum, Richland City Hall and a Welcome Center.
