Description
Olustee Depot 1, Olustee FL
The historic Olustee Depot located in the Osceola National Forest in Florida serves as a reminder of the days when Olustee was a booming timber town and the railroad was the center of economic and social growth in the area. Until the 1960s the Olustee depot served as the hub of this community with trains stopping daily to deliver mail, export supplies and bring people to and from Olustee.
The depot serves as the Osceola National Forest information center, which is open Wednesday through Monday. Local partners and volunteers helped the Forest Service with the restoration of the depot. The interpretive displays in the center provide information about the roles the railroad and the timber industry played in the development of north Florida.
