This page provides layout requirements pertaining to final manuscript submission to Journal of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness: Research, Practice, and Education.

Types of Manuscripts

The Journal of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness: Research, Practice, and Education publishes articles that promote sexual wellness through scholarly inquiry; remain grounded in existing literature; and include meaningful implications, such as those for public policy, practice, advocacy, and social benefit and change. As such, submitted articles should focus on one the following areas:

Research Studies

Articles within this area represent qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods studies that offer a substantial contribution or clarification to the fields of counseling and sexual health and wellness.

New/Innovative/Best Practices

Articles within this area should advance evidence-based counseling, advocacy, or associated practices in the fields of counseling and sexual health.

Conceptual Articles

Articles within this area represent original thinking, which may include, but is not limited to, critique, analysis, new theoretical perspectives, or an expansion of previous ideas or techniques for new purposes in the fields of counseling and sexual health.

Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts are considered under a blind peer review process, in which at least two editorial members will offer independent evaluation. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically. Authors should take care to leave no traceable hints to their identity in order to maintain integrity of the process. This includes removing author information from the title page of the manuscript and rules for de-identification within the body of the manuscript and references (e.g., [Authors], 2018).

Authors should not submit manuscripts simultaneously to multiple journals. All submitted manuscripts must be substantially different in form and content from any previously published work. By submitting an article for review, the authors agree to have their names added to the list of potential ad hoc manuscript reviewers.

Preparation of Manuscripts

The names and affiliations of all authors should appear on the separate supplemental title page only. Additionally, the corresponding author should be identified by including that authors’ titles, credentials, mailing address, and e-mail address. All pages should include an abbreviated title in the header in APA format, not to exceed 80 characters and spaces.

The Journal of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness: Research, Practice, and Education requires that all authors follow the most current ACA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. All manuscripts must conform to standards detailed in the most recent edition of the APA Publication Manual. The journal supports the use of gender neutral pronouns, including the singular “they.” Manuscripts should be concise, yet with enough detail to provide clarity. Submitted manuscripts should include an abstract not to exceed 100 words. The journal does not use a structured abstract. Please include 3-5 keywords to follow the abstract.

Manuscripts should be created using Microsoft Word and uploaded in the associated format (.doc or .docx). Manuscripts should not exceed 30 pages including all references, tables, and figures. Though longer manuscripts may be considered as space is available, a request for consolidation and revision may be made by the reviewers and/or editors. Tables and figures should be used only when necessary, and footnotes and endnotes should not be included. Authors are responsible for securing permission to use any copyrighted materials, including lengthy quotations (generally 400 or more words) or tables/figures (both adapted or used in its entirety). If accepted for publication, final manuscripts should be publication ready upon submission.
