On the mean stress correction in fatigue life assessment in cast aluminum alloys

Abstract

Several equations provided in the literature for mean stress correction have been summarized. By using datasets for cast aluminum alloys, these equations have been reanalyzed for best fit to the data. The goodness of fit of the mean stress correction equations to data have been characterized statistically. Based on these results, best performing equations are introduced. Suggestions on how to use these equations are provided in the paper.
