Description
Luigi Gregori Painting Notre Dame Main Building Rotunda. The ceiling and murals inside were painted by Luigi Gregori, a Vatican artist for Pope Pius IX, who came to Notre Dame on a three-year contract with the intention of returning to Rome. But this famed Italian artist became art director at Notre Dame in 1876 and painted the rotunda of the main building. This is one of the many paintings he did.
