Ned's Point Lighthouse

Description

Information etched in the stone tower of Ned's Point lighthouse which is located in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. It is above the wood door (name, longitude/latitude, date established). It was built in 1838 and decommissioned in 1952. In 1993, the local Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla adopted the lighthouse. Auxiliary members renovated the lighthouse in 1995-1996. The tower is built of stone with a cantilevered granite stairway, with 32 steps embedded in the inner wall without the use of mortar. This is on the National Register of Historic Places (NRIS #87001488).
